Our story begins back in 2014, when 2 guys decided to create a fun place for all of their friends to come and hang out and have a good time. They wanted a bar/restaurant that appealed to everyone, which means you have to have a big variety of beer...and food. As a result, Drunken Donkey has more taps than just about anywhere in the area.
People often ask how we came up with the name Drunken Donkey. Chris and Jessica have some donkeys on their place in Argyle, and they are so much fun that they decided to make the Donkey their mascot. And so, Barley was born.
Because they wanted to be known as a fun party place, they came up with the name Drunken Donkey because, well, beer is an important ingredient in parties. Of course not everyone likes beer, so over the years they've added spirits, ciders, and most recently seltzers. They take requests too. Their beer guy, Devin, does his best to keep the taps/coolers stocked with what guests like because that's what a good host does.
Like everyone, Drunken Donkey went through some growing pains. They tried out a few sister restaurant concepts that didn't work out quite as expected, and they even became the subject of a few Bar Rescue episodes. Ultimately though, they ended up coming back to their roots.: Today, Drunken Donkey is focused on being a fun retreat from everyday life, a place for you to enjoy friends over craft beer and delicious food, and cheer on your favorite team. In short, Drunken Donkey stands for great hospitality, amazing beer and food, and fun times.
At the end of every August, the owners Chris and Anthony throw a big party - Liberation Day - as a thank you to all the guests past and present that are helping them bring the fun to each of their locations. As they look to the future, they have plans of growing Drunken Donkey across Texas and who knows where else.. One thing is sure, no matter where they go they will continue the party and fun times for all.
